Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle - Wednesday, April 20th
at 7:00 PM - at the NRWA with Irene Congdon, the Central
Massachusetts Regional Recycling Coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of
Environmental Protection.
Where does our trash go? What
is recycling and why is it so important? What are the benefits to me to
recycle? Where do our recyclables go? Irene Congdon give a
multimedia presentation, which includes short movie regarding the States Waste
ban, power point presentation and show and tell. We will also have
information about Ashby, Ayer, Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell, Townsend and
Tyngsborough recycling programs and some towns recycling committee
representatives will be present for questions. Remember this is Earth Week
and a great time to know what is currently going on in the state, in the region
and in your community. Congdon has been working with Mass DEP
for over 3 year. She previously worked as the Commercial Recycling Coordinator
for PA DEP. For the past for 3 years, Congdon has worked with many communities
on various recycling programs, improving curbside and drop-off programs,
recycling education program and working with communities to save money, while
adding more recycling services.

"Black Flies" - Thursday, May 12th at 7:00 PM - at
the NRWA with Richard Pollack, instructor of Tropical Public Health at the
Harvard School of Public Health, presents a slideshow and lecture on the
biology of the black fly and its relationship to human health issues.
Co-sponsored by the Friends of Willard Brook State Forest

The Ashby Land Trust will hold it's 6th annual
meeting and elections on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the First Parish
Church on the Ashby Common. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am. The Land
Trust is pleased to present author and geologist Robert Thorson who will
speak on the magnificent history of New England stone walls. Dr. Thorson
is the author of several books on stone walls and is a frequent speaker to
museums, land trusts, historical societies and schools. His book, Stone
by Stone: The Magnificent History of New England Stone Walls, won the 2003
Connecticut Book award, and his most recent book, Exploring Stone Walls will be
hot off the press in time for our meeting. Dr. Thorson is a professor at
the University of Connecticut and lives in Storrs, CT.

Ashburnham Conservation Trust at their Membership Annual Meeting on
Sat. April 16th, 10 AM at the Stevens Memorial Library, 20
Memorial Drive in Ashburnham. There will be updates on current projects and the
membership will be voting for Board members. This year we are pleased to offer a
presentation by Marcia Wilson, expert on owls and an owl rehabilitation
specialist. She will bring some wild owls to the meeting for us to meet.
